Recently, cupcakes have become incredibly popular in New York City. Many residents and visitors to the city are now favoring the sweet cupcakes over the now-famous hot dogs and New York pizza. TV series such as Sex and the City have added even more popularity to these delicious colorful desserts. Below, I’ve compiled a list of the most famous places that sell the best cupcakes in New York City.

Magnolia Bakery

Magnolia Bakery is one of the most famous cupcake chains, made popular by the TV series Sex and the City. Magnolia Bakery’s first and most famous branch is located on Bleecker Street. You can see exactly where it is located on my free Eric’s New York app. It has a very relaxed and cozy atmosphere. One of the most popular sweets is the Red Velvet (red velvet) cupcake.

Red Velvet cupcakes got their name because of the red color of the sponge cake. This color can be achieved by mixing cocoa, vinegar and buttermilk. Food coloring is also often used these days. The traditional recipe for this unusual dessert comes from the United States.

Little Cupcake Bakeshop

Vintage style is present in every detail of this cute pastry shop. All items are made with organic products. A portion of their profits goes to a charity organization (FEED project) to fight hunger among children around the world. There are many reasons why you should definitely visit Little Cupcake Bakeshop. But the most important one is, of course, the delicious cupcakes. They bake a huge selection of desserts here: Mott Street cupcakes and peanut butter and jelly cupcakes.

Battercup Bake Shop

The cordial staff will welcome you to Buttercup Bake Shop’s pastry shops throughout Manhattan. With the huge variety of sweets, you will find it quite difficult to choose. In addition to all the different types of cupcakes (like Golden Butter, Lady Baltimore, and Red Velvet), they bake a wonderful banana pudding here.

Baked by Melissa

There are so many different kinds of cupcakes. To try a few, order mini cupcakes. Baked by Melissa Bake Shop sells only these types of mini cupcakes. The first Baked by Melissa pastry shop opened in Soho, and today there are about a dozen of them in New York City.

There are 10 permanent varieties: try the Tie-Dye, Cookie Dough or Chocolate Chip Pancake. There are new varieties of cupcakes every month. Since the cakes are quite small in size (2.5 centimeters in diameter), order several.

Molly’s Cupcakes

A cute pastry shop in the Village neighborhood. The Chicago branch of the pastry shop has won many prizes for the best cupcakes in the city. The pastry shop in New York City also holds itself to high standards.

The story behind the establishment of this pastry shop is quite interesting. Miss Molly was a teacher of the owner of the establishment in an elementary school. When one of her students had a birthday, she baked cupcakes for the entire class. A portion of the profits from sales at Molly’s Cupcakes goes to schools as a charity.

At Molly’s Cupcakes, you can choose the ingredients of your cupcake, flavor, toppings and decorations with whipped cream or cream. They also bake several seasonal and vegan options here. The most popular cupcakes are Apple Pie, Peach Cobbler, Pumpkin Spice, Ron Bennington (peanut butter jelly and chocolate) and Red Velvet.

If you love culinary traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation, Bean Pie is a dessert you should definitely try. This bean pie is not as famous as the traditional American apple or pumpkin pie, but its flavor and history are worth a try.

What is a bean pie?

Bean-pie is a pie whose main ingredient is beans, most commonly red or black beans. This dessert has an unusual flavor that combines sweet and spicy notes. Spices such as cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg are also added to the filling, which gives the pie an incredible depth of flavor. On the surface, it resembles traditional pumpkin or sweet potato pie, but the texture is creamier and richer.

History of Bin Pie

Bean pie became especially popular among African Americans in the 20th century. It was introduced as part of the culinary culture associated with the black rights movement in the United States. This pie was not only a symbol of gastronomic identity, but also an affordable way to use beans as a main ingredient, which was especially important in times of economic hardship.

The pie became a traditional dessert in African American families, often accompanying holiday events and family gatherings. Over time, bina pai became popular outside of this cultural community as well, attracting the attention of people looking for a new flavor experience.

Why try bina pai?

  • It’s not just a dessert with a familiar filling. Bina pai has a unique combination of sweetness and spice that is different from other pies;
  • Once you try bina pai, you will not only enjoy the flavor, but you will also become part of a long tradition that represents cultural heritage;
  • Beans, the main ingredient in the pie, are a great source of plant protein and fiber. This dessert can be a fun way to add more nutrients to your diet;
  • Bina pai is the perfect choice for those who want to surprise their guests with something unusual and delicious. This cake will be a real star at any celebration.

Conclusion

Bin-pai is not just a delicious dessert, but also a part of a cultural tradition that carries history and soul. If you want to try something new and unusual, don’t miss the chance to enjoy this unique pie. Believe me, after the first slice you will want to come back for more!

When you think of the best cheesecake in New York City, Junior’s famous cheesecake comes to mind, of course. However, there are also plenty of other great cheesecake options in the Big Apple, as New York is famous for them. New York cheesecake is said to have a very unique flavor. Below I will tell you about the best cheesecake in New York.

Eileen’s Special Cheesecake

Eileen’s Special Cheesecake is located in Soho, on a somewhat secluded street that is usually overlooked by locals. The fact that the pastry shop is in such an unremarkable place gives it a special character. By the way, the founder Eileen has been baking one of the best cheesecakes in New York for over 35 years. The store is very cozy and decorated with photos of famous visitors, articles about their cakes and paintings by local artists. The cheesecake at the pastry shop is made with cream cheese (unlike many others that use ricotta) and has an airy texture. Eileen’s Pastry Shop sells whole cakes as well as small portions. You’ll find cheesecake in a variety of flavors here, as well as other cakes and cookies.

Junior’s has been a restaurant in Brooklyn since the mid-20th century. Later added branches in several popular locations in Manhattan around Times Square. Junior’s offers a varied menu of sandwiches, salads, seafood and meats. Don’t order too much of everything because the main dish on the menu is cheesecake. By the way, Junior’s owes its fame to this very dessert. It is often called one of the best cheesecakes in New York. It is made of cream cheese, cream, eggs, sugar and vanilla. Countless celebrities, from presidents to Hollywood stars, have been unable to resist this treat.

Cheesecake Factory in New York City

I am often asked if there is a Cheesecake Factory restaurant in New York City. A branch of this famous restaurant also operates in New York City, but unfortunately not in Manhattan. If you can’t imagine your trip to New York without visiting Cheesecake Factory, then you will have to go to Queens. That’s where this chain’s restaurant operates, featuring over 30 varieties of cheesecake. Take the M or R line train from Times Square, the trip takes about half an hour. Another restaurant operates on the other side of the Hudson River, in New Jersey. To get there, take the PATH train toward Journal Square and get off at Newport Station. It’s then another 5-minute walk from there.

If you find yourself in New York, be sure to try the local bagels! These round buns with a dense texture are a true symbol of the city, comparable to croissants in Paris. In New York you can find classic bagels, as well as variants with poppy seeds, cinnamon, raisins and various fillings. They are most often eaten with cream cheese, butter, salmon, chicken or tuna. They are the perfect breakfast or quick snack. Below is a list of the best places to try authentic New York City bagels.

Russ & Daughters

This legendary bakery has been delighting guests since 1914. Here you can try bagels with caviar, herring and, of course, with dried salmon, which is presented in different variants – from Ireland, Norway and New Zealand. The most famous branch is on Hauston Street, not far from the famous Katz’s Deli. Be prepared to queue, but the wait is worth it! Another convenient option is the branch in Hudson Yards, near High Line Park and the Edge observation deck.

Ess-A-Bagel

This family-owned business is known for its huge selection of fresh bagels, toppings, salads, and fish. You can even find rare options here that aren’t available elsewhere. If you like to experiment, try one of the unusual flavors. The bakery is located on Third Avenue and offers a cozy space for a leisurely breakfast. However, it can get crowded during peak hours, so it’s best to arrive early.

PopUp Bagels

Here, the bagels are made right in front of you – fresh, flavorful, and sometimes still warm! Be sure to try their signature version with cream cheese (Schmear). You can add fish and take it to Washington Square Park to enjoy your meal al fresco. The popular establishment is located on Thompson Street. Despite possible lines, service is fast, so you won’t have to wait long.

Pick A Bagel

Pick A Bagel has several locations throughout Manhattan. Here they offer not only bagels with different fillings, but also salads, muffins, cookies, sandwiches and good coffee. A great option for a quick but hearty snack.

Black Seed Bagels

This place combines the traditions of New York and Montreal pastries. There are original combinations on the menu, such as bagel with cheese pizza or smoked salmon and spiced pastrami. Black Seed Bagels are conveniently located throughout New York City, so it’s easy to find them while walking around the city.

Murray’s Bagels

The main drawback of this establishment is the lack of seating. However, it is compensated by excellent taste of bagels. Here even the classic version with poppy seeds, onions and garlic is incredibly tasty.
In addition to bagels, Murray’s offers a large selection of cream cheese, salads, and even hot entrees such as scrambled eggs. A special mention should be made for their smoked salmon – it’s a real delicacy!

Supermarket bagels

If you’re short on time or want to stock up on bagels for a picnic, you can buy them in supermarkets in New York City. They’re inexpensive and quite tasty, although they certainly don’t compare to those made in specialty bakeries.

Try these establishments and you will definitely get a taste of the real New York!

]]>
If you find yourself in New York’s cozy Greenwich Village neighborhood, don’t pass by the wonderful Magnolia Bakery, where you can go crazy over the selection of all kinds of cupcakes and other desserts, especially if you, like me, have a sweet tooth. Every time I’m in New York, I go there for breakfast one day to indulge in some delicious sweets. As a rule, I arrive right at the opening, because every hour there are more and more people, and the later you wake up, the more likely you are to wait in line. Together with the cupcakes I buy coffee there, and to enjoy my sweet breakfast without delay, I settle down in the coziest square, which is right next to the bakery at the intersection of Bleecker Street and 11th Street.

There are several Magnolias currently operating in New York City, but it was in Greenwich Village that the very first bakery opened in the summer of 1996. At that time, two enthusiasts Allisa Tori and Jennifer Apple, hiring only three employees – a baker, a dishwasher and a barista, opened a small bakery, which initially offered only 4 types of bread, some cinnamon rolls and a few other pastries. The bread was soon phased out because it was time-consuming to produce and more space was needed. But then the cupcakes were born, which made Magnolia world-famous. It was originally conceived as a simple home bakery, intended only for residents of the neighborhood and open from morning until 6 pm. But not even a year later, the cupcake craze literally began! At first, local residents who were ready to buy delicious cupcakes not only in the morning, but also in the late evening succumbed to the frenzy, because of which the hours of operation were increased, and Magnolia began to work until midnight. But soon not only New Yorkers, but also tourists began to come for sweets from Magnolia. In order to buy the coveted cupcakes, it was necessary to stand then a decent queue. Now the matter is much easier, because the network has grown and bakeries have opened in several more districts of the city. During its existence Magnolia Bakery has changed owners and staff, but their wonderful cupcakes have always remained unchanged! There are a lot of them, different colors and tastes, and almost always there are some limited collections, timed to some events. And the desserts are prepared right in front of you – the kitchen is open and you can hang around for a long time watching pastry chefs decorate cakes or the same cupcakes.

Magnolia also had “black days”. For example, in 2007 it was closed by the Department of Health because of non-compliance with accepted standards. But on the same day when this happened the mayor’s office was flooded with calls demanding that the bakery be reopened immediately. The mayor was forced to make concessions and Magnolia was allowed to open in a couple of days, of course, on the condition that all the deficiencies would be corrected.

It is also worth noting that Magnolia Bakery on Bleecker Street has become a real star! It has been featured in many movies and TV shows, but perhaps its greatest fame came when it appeared in season 3 of Sex and the City – Carrie and Miranda were eating their cupcakes so appetizingly on a bench next to the bakery that Magnolia instantly became a must-visit for many fans of the show. The bench, by the way, has now been removed, but the photo proof proudly paints on the entrance.

As I wrote above, there are several Magnolia Bakery currently operating in New York City. In addition, there are bakeries in Chicago and Los Angeles. The current owners have grandiose plans to expand the chain – they are going to open 120 more establishments around the world in the next 5 years! But, even if Magnolia opens near your home, I highly recommend that if you find yourself in New York, stop by this nice cozy bakery on Bleecker Street to indulge in a delicious cupcake, I’m sure you will never forget it and the atmosphere created there!

Want to know where the best donuts in New York City are? Donuts (or donuts) are one of the culinary symbols of the United States. New Yorkers love to drink coffee with them, so there are dozens of different donut stores in the city. And, of course, the selection is huge, from the simplest ones sold at food stands to the most exquisite ones in trendy bakeries. If you’re looking for the tastiest donuts in NYC, go to the chain donut stores, but I also recommend you check out local stores. Here’s a list of places where you can find the best donuts in NYC.

Donut Pub

The history of the Donut Pub store dates back to 1964. It makes both traditional donuts and unique ones, such as chocolate salt donuts, maple syrup and bacon donuts, and the famous Boston Kreme. The very first branch of the chain, located at 203 West 14th Street in the West Village, is open 24 hours a day. By the way, Donut Pub doesn’t use peanuts or tree nuts when baking donuts, so those with nut allergies can come here.

Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop

Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop is a place where you can go back in time. It first opened its doors in the 1950s, and not much has changed since then. The staff is dressed in retro costumes and the store itself is decorated in an old-school style. You may also recognize this place from its appearance in the movie Spider-Man: No Way Home. It also serves all sorts of delicious and, in my opinion, the best donuts in Brooklyn. You can find Peter Pan Donuts in Brooklyn at 727 Manhattan Avenue.

Krispy Kreme in Times Square

Krispy Kreme is a chain of stores in the United States known for their “original glazed donuts”. They have several locations in New York City, but the flagship store in Times Square certainly makes a lasting impression. There are lines here, but once inside, you’ll forget about all the inconvenience of waiting as you’ll be engrossed in the doughnut-making process. Be sure to try the exclusive Big Apple donut at Krispy Kreme in Times Square, which is sold in an elegant green box.

Dominique Ansel Bakery

The creator of the famous cronuts, Dominique Ansel was bound to be on this list. A cronut is a mixture of a croissant and a doughnut. Now the idea is being borrowed all over the world. The prices of the original cronuts are in line with the popularity of this establishment. In addition, cronuts often sell out very quickly. To try this treat, you have several options. For example, you can wait in line at the Soho store at 189 Spring Street, Soho (note that the line is usually already lined up an hour before opening). You can also order your cronuts online and choose a pick-up date.
