Arcade Bakery has opened in the heart of Tribeca, in the elegant marble lobby of the Merchant’s Square Building office building. Cozy niches with folding tables, a vintage art nouveau buffet and unrivaled baked goods from a world champion baker make this place truly special.
Unique space
Arcade Bakery is housed in a building dating back to 1900. High vaulted ceilings and noble materials give the place an atmosphere of restrained luxury. Architects from Brooklyn-based studio Workstead helped to realize the concept. Instead of a standard hall with tables, they used eight large showcases built into a long corridor.
One of the cabinets turned into an open kitchen, another into a counter, and the rest became cozy areas for guests. Glass was removed, the walls of niches were covered with mahogany, and folding tables were installed at different heights, creating a variety of options for comfortable rest. Here you can sit on the edge, climb inside with your feet or simply have a snack standing up. When leaving, the guest lifts the table behind them, freeing up space.
Atmosphere and style
Natural materials – wood, copper, glass – are used for decoration. The lighting is complemented by stylized chandeliers and sconces created especially for Arcade Bakery by Workstead designers. The only truly antique interior detail is an exquisitely carved Art Nouveau sideboard.
The Art of Baking
Arcade Bakery’s owner, famed baker Roger Gural, treats baking as a true art form. Breads, rolls, pizzas, and other freshly baked goods are not just served, but displayed in handcrafted glass cases and on the shelves of an antique buffet, emphasizing their status as unique culinary creations.
Arcade Bakery is not just a place to drink coffee and enjoy pastries, but a corner with a unique atmosphere, harmoniously combining aesthetics, tradition and impeccable taste.
